Social Shopping Experience Was Extended by Modcloth to iPhone

ModCloth, a retro and indie fashion and decor e-tailer, launched their ModCloth App for iPhone. It follows the release of the company’s 4.5 star ModCloth App for iPad, which launched in February, as part of an initiative to provide options for its growing mobile user base.

Insights into consumer shopping behavior have been led by both an expanded, in-house User Experience Research team and social observations of the shopping community. “We’re noting our customers’ behavior so we can give them the social shopping experience they love wherever they are, whenever they want it — no matter the preferred platform,” says ModCloth’s VP of Product, Sarah Rose.

Some insights driving ModCloth’s mobile strategy:

- Over 1/4 of ModCloth’s traffic comes from mobile

- There is a large spike in mobile traffic before bed around 9 p.m.

- iPad users come back 2x as much to the app as they do to our mobile site

- Conversion and engagement on mobile are both higher. In fact, users “Love” items 8x more on the mobile app than they do on the website

In response, ModCloth created the ModCloth App with deep-engagement experiences in mind to bring their on-the-go shopping experience to the whole of their community.

Users can:

- Browse products and “Love” their favorites

- Add products to “Wishlists” in a snap

- Speed through streamlined checkout

- Send and share item posts through social media channels

Sixty thousand users have downloaded the ModCloth App for iPad since its launch in February of 2013, and those users are spending twice as much on ModCloth orders than those engaging on their desktops.

ModCloth predicts even greater numbers for their iPhone app, and they believe their quick response to customers’ growing mobile needs will provide an even more well-rounded social shopping experience to their community.
