Valmet Will Supply a Paper Machine to US-Based Pratt Industries

Finland-based pulp, paper and energy industry service suppliers Valmet will supply a paper machine to US-based Pratt Industries, which will use the recovered paper to produce recycled linerboard and corrugated medium.

The machine purchased by Pratt for an undisclosed amount will be set up in the company's new greenfield paper mill in Indiana and is a part of Valmet's third quarter orders for 2014. The company expects to set up the machine PM16 by 2015.

The new machine will feature a wire width of 6.25 meters with a design speed of 1,200 meters per minutes.

Valmet will supply the complete production line of OptiConcept M board from headbox to winder. This would be the company's first OptiConcept M installation in North America.

Pratt Industries, said to be US's fifth largest corrugated packaging company and the world's largest privately-held 100% recycled paper and packaging company, has recently also announced the construction of a new recycled containerboard mill near its corrugated box plant in Valparaiso.

The new mill is expected to start production in July 2015 and will add 325,000 tpy (360,000 sh.t) of recycled containerboard to the company's paper capacity.

Valmet employs close to 11,000 people and offers technology for pulp mills, tissue, board and paper production lines. It also provides power plants for bio-energy production.

The company which has been in existence for over 200 years made annual sales of about €2.6bn in the year 2013. It also went through the demerger of the pulp, paper and power businesses from Metso group in 2013.
