DP World Expansion Work at The Jebel Ali Port Is on Track

Gulf News reported that DP World expansion work at the Jebel Ali port is on track, as the Dubai based company looks to ramp up the capacity at its flagship facility to meet growing demand.

DP World in an emailed statement said that the expanded container terminal 2 at Jebel Ali is scheduled to open for business in the Q2 of 2013.

The statement said that work on the new terminal 3, across the harbor from terminal 2, is also well underway to open in 2014 and take Jebel Ali’s total capacity to 19 million TEUs.

Mr Mohammad Al Muallem senior vice president and MD for the UAE region at DP World in the statement said that “For well over a year now, DP World, UAE region has been handling volumes of more than 1 million TEU every month. With our customers now deploying ultra large container ships, Jebel Ali is racing ahead with its capacity expansion to meet their demand.”

DP World said that the Jebel Ali port will be able to handle 10 of the next generation 18,000 TEU mega vessels at the same time once the expansion work is complete.
