Norway's Arcus Selects Thinfilm's NFC Tags for Linie Aquavit Brand Bottles

Norway-based wine and liquor wholesaler Arcus has selected Thin Film Electronics’ near field communication (NFC) technology to better connect with its consumers.

Preparations are underway for an initial field trial, which is anticipated to start in the second quarter.

The trial will see Thinfilm’s smartphone-readable SpeedTap tags applied to bottles of Arcus’ LINIE Aquavit brand to allow a direct connection with consumers.

Arcus Norwegian Aquavit category manager Romain Jourdan said: “Linie aquavit is the world’s oldest aquavit brand, created in 1821. We have a strong focus on innovation in order to keep the brand contemporary and build awareness around the aquavit category.

“We are excited to partner with a fellow-Norwegian firm and look forward to working closely with Thinfilm on this innovative initiative.”

The Arcus’ Linie aquavit brand bottles will feature Thinfilm’s NFC SpeedTap tags, which integrate with cloud-based software to allow remote tag management, custom content delivery, and detailed analytics and reporting.

Designed to allow individual identification, each of the SpeedTap tag can be read with the tap of an NFC-enabled smartphone or device.

Upon tapping, the tags communicate wirelessly with Thinfilm’s cloud-based software platform, creating a one-to-one mobile marketing platform, allowing Arcus to connect directly with consumers.

In addition to Linie aquavit brand, Arcus owns the Aalborg, Løiten, and Gammel Opland aquavit brands.

Thinfilm plans to display the Linie aquavit connected bottles at Mobile World Congress 2017 being held in Barcelona, Spain from 27 February-02 March.
