GM Will Reportedly Design The Next Batmobile,Adopting a New Design Language for Mode

GM to Design Next Batmobile: Report

General Motors will reportedly design the next Batmobile, adopting a new design language for the caped crusader’s preferred mode of transport.

The rumour, which was first started on Batman fansite ‘Batman on Film’, suggests GM’s Advanced Design Studio in North Hollywood has been tasked with designing the new movie car.

The studio was recently responsible for designing some of the cars used in the film Transformers 4, including the Bumblebee Camaro.

The website says GM will adopt a new design language for the Batmobile, diverging from Christopher Nolan’s military-inspired vision for the car, which saw it fitted with a 5.7-litre V8 punching out 370kW, not to mention dual front auto cannons, a rocket launcher, explosive caltrops, and an on-board motorcycle.

“The Batmobile is currently being designed and built by General Motors at the GM Advanced Design Studio in North Hollywood… It will definitely not have a military look like The Tumbler from Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight Trilogy’,” the website says.

It is also suggested an old Cadillac will feature prominently in the next Batman film, which will pit Batman, to be played by actor Ben Affleck, against Superman.

Whether GM follows the original Batmobile’s long-and-low approach, takes inspiration from Gordon Murray’s F1 inspired design, or features a completely new design, is anyone’s guess at this stage.
