The McLaren P1 Is Reportedly Almost Sold out, with Only a Handful Still Available in Europ

The McLaren P1 is reportedly almost sold out, with only a handful still available to customers in Europe.

Autocar reports every unit of the 673kW hybrid hypercar destined for markets in Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and North and South America has been sold.

Continuing economic uncertainty has been blamed for the P1 not selling out in Europe, though is understood McLaren will not shift allocation to other regions in order to maintain the exclusivity of the 350km/h British bullet.

The McLaren P1 carries an £866,000 ($1.51 million) price tag in its home market but Autocar says between 80 and 90 per cent of global customers have optioned in unique design elements from McLaren Special Operations, stretching the average price beyond £1 million ($1.74 million).

Earlier this year ahead of its Geneva motor show debut, a spokesman for McLaren in Australia said local taxes would push the price of the P1 to around $1.8-1.9 million, while options could easily take it beyond $2 million.

Despite being produced exclusively in left-hand-drive and therefore not able to be registered for use on public roads, the spokesman said a number of local enthusiasts had registered their interest in purchasing a P1 for private and track use, and was hopeful that “one or two” of the 375 planned for production would make their way onto Australian soil.

McLaren has not yet confirmed if it has sold any P1s locally.

The McLaren P1 is powered by a 673kW/900Nm hybrid drivetrain comprising a 542kW/720Nm 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8, a 132kW/260Nm electric motor, a battery pack and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends drive to the rear wheels.

Its Formula One-inspired Drag Reduction System (DRS) and Instant Power Assist System (IPAS) technologies allow the new flagship McLaren to sprint from 0-100km/h in less than three seconds and operate in zero-emission, pure-electric mode for up to 20km when driven at an average speed of 50km/h.
