Odisha Has Allowed Operations to Resume in Eight Iron Ore Mines

The government of the Indian state of Odisha has allowed operations to resume in eight iron ore mines in the state following its earlier decision to fast-track mining license renewals, according to media reports. The mines that will resume operations in Odisha belong to Tata Steel, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Odisha Mining Corporation.

Odisha's mine department does not expect the halting of iron ore operations in the state to have a significant impact on the full-year output, media reports indicate.

As SteelOrbis previously reported, in May this year India's Supreme Court announced a partial mining ban affecting about 26 iron ore mines located in Odisha due to non-renewal of mining leases. In the past week, the state government decided to expedite license renewals, with renewals of 10 mining licenses expected within two months.
