British flexible films manufacturer Skymark is investing in a new Nordmecanica Super Simplex solvent-less laminator to increase capacity at its facility in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, the UK.
When installed in November this year, the new technology will allow Skymark to improve its service for key clients by meeting the increasing demand for short run work
According to Skymark, the clients are looking at better functionality from their packaging such as increased barrier performance of pack for improved product shelf life to minimize supply chain waste, as well as improved robustness and aesthetics of the pack.
Super Simplex is a compact laminator that supports high production and quality standards in the solventless field.
According to Nordmecanica, the laminator delivers greater operational flexibility at the facility, while enabling the users to deliver additional features to clients.
Skymark technical director Paul Glover said: "The addition of this machine to our site in Scunthorpe will deliver greater operational flexibility and also release capacity from our Nordmecanica Super Combi 3000 lamination machines enabling us to deliver additional features for clients.
"We see the expansion of our lamination films range as a key area for growth going forward and this investment reflects our commitment to the market and to innovation.
"The Nordmecanica solution was chosen due to its competitiveness and delivery commitment; it also enables interchangeable parts with the rest of our current lamination machines which is critical when we're responding to our customers' needs on a 24 hour basis."
Skymark has two manufacturing facilities in Ilkeston and Scunthorpe, where it manufactures plain, embossed and printed flexible films for the food, personal care and medical packaging industry.
The company's manufacturing capabilities include cast and blown film co-extrusion, flexographic printing, solvent and solventless lamination, slitting, conversion and recycling.
