Megaman Achieves Major Cost Savings for Birmingham Women’s Hospital

New PLATEIA Luminaires from Megaman UK have played a vital role improving the visual environment of Birmingham Women's Hospital, whilst achieving significant savings on energy and maintenance.

Birmingham Women's Hospital, based in Edgbaston, is one of only two specialist Trusts in the UK which cares for women and their families.  Following a Trust survey it was identified that the existing overall visual environment was poor and that the lighting was part of the problem.  A new lighting scheme had to fit in with the Trust's strict guidelines to reduce carbon, whilst providing a good lighting scheme that would enhance both patient and staff environments.

Following an assessment by a local electrical wholesaler, Megaman's new PLATEIA was found to be the perfect replacement for the traditional grid based recessed fluorescent luminaires, meeting the stringent criteria for carbon reduction and energy savings. Using a super bright LED light source, the PLATEIA offers a harmonious and uniform light with no UV or IR emissions.  Fitting into a standard 600x600mm ceiling grid, the lightweight panel is perfect for stairwells, corridors or hard to access locations.  Powered by a low voltage constant current driver, the PLATEIA is suitable for use with daylight and occupancy detectors and offers a low glare, flicker free operation.

Following installation at the hospital, Head of Estates Warren Hubbard commented:

"We have just refurbished the main circulation routes and outpatient areas with Megaman's PLATEIA system and this had produced energy savings of 50%.  We are looking at replacing other areas as the new lighting offers a much lighter, brighter environment which has been very well received by staff and patients alike".
