Whitewood did not reveal a purchase price for the transaction, which closed at the end of January.

Officials of Whitewood said the purchase accomplished a long-term goal of breaking into the contract furniture industry.

"Our vision some 30-plus years ago was to always look for opportunities to grow as well as offer our customers the very best service and product the industry has to offer," said Jorge Mata, CEO of Whitewood Inds. "Sedgewick Inds.' core values are in line with our own.... The synergies of Whitewood Inds. and Sedgewick Inds. will ensure the future growth of both companies."

Whitewood now has four divisions: Sedgewick, which is sold under the name Custom Contract Furnishings; Whitewood Ready-To-Finish; John Thomas, a custom casual dining resource, and International Concepts, which supplies dining furniture to specialty retailers.

Not including Sedgewick, Whitewood Inds. employ 150 workers. Sedgewick employs another 42, who work out of the company's High Point headquarters and 80,000-square-foot manufacturing plant.

Mata said that it will be "business as usual in regard to production and staffing" at Sedgewick. Husband and wife team Kim and Leslie Crossman, who founded Sedgewick in 1990, will continue to manage production.
