Cuban Guayabera Shirts Will Be Imported by Caribbean Islands

Around 1,500 guayabera shirts, the national attire of Cuban men, will be exported to the beautiful tropical regions of the Caribbean Islands, according to the Prensa Latina news agency.

The shirts are being produced in the textile manufacturing factory of the Cuban Cultural Goods Fund, an association located in the country’s central Cienfuegos province, confirmed Ericel Alvarez, the director of the association.

Known for their high-quality fabrics and components, the Cienfuegos produced guayabera shirts have a huge demand in Panama, Colombia and Venezuela, said Alvarez.

The Cienfuegos province in Cuba also houses the Museum of the Guayabera Shirt, which exhibits shirts donated by some historically famous personalities like Fidel Castro, Raul Castro and Hugo Chavez, as well as the Nobel Literature Prize winner Guatemalan writer Miguel Angel Asturias.

The official formal dress of Cuba ‘guayabera’ shirt features two or four patch pockets and two vertical rows of alforzas (fine, tiny pleats sewn closely together) running along the front and back of the shirt. It is also known as Mexican Wedding Shirt.
