Electric Vehicles Will Be Added to Frito-Lay's Fleet in New York

Frito-Lay North America, a convenient foods business unit of PepsiCo, is set to add 20 electric vehicles to its fleet in New York, along with enhanced electric vehicle charging stations.

With this development, Frito-Lay will have 35 all-electric trucks in New York, making it the company's second largest deployment in any state.

The company expects to eliminate 63,000 gallons of fuel and nearly 1,048,950 pounds of greenhouse gases per year in the state of New York.

The automated charging stations will help optimize the future of electric vehicles, while all-electric trucks will operate from distribution centers across New York, including in Albany, Buffalo, Rochester and New Paltz.

Frito-Lay North America fleet operations senior director Mike O'Connell said that the introduction of these enhanced charging stations is a significant step forward for the Frito-Lay fleet as it continues on the company's sustainability journey.

"Not only will the stations benefit our operations in real-time, they also allow the state of New York to gain a better understanding of the vehicles, providing the critical information needed for the state to continue to invest in this alternative vehicle technology," O'Connell added.

Frito-Lay had received funding to support the introduction of charging stations, through Governor Andrew M. Cuomo's Charge NY initiative, which seeks to grow electric vehicle use in the state by helping to create a statewide charging station infrastructure.
