Nampak Flexible Has Received Its OHSAS 18001 Accreditation

South African flexible plastic packaging solutions manufacturer Nampak Flexible has received its Occupational Health and Safety Advisory Services (OHSAS) 18001 accreditation.

According to Nampak, the OHSAS 18001 specification, which formalizes the company's safety program was created through a concerted effort from a number of the world's leading national standards bodies, certification bodies and specialist consultancies.

The system provides a framework for organizations to identify elements of their businesses that present risks from an occupational health, safety or environmental perspective and to identify and document a program to manage, mitigate or eliminate those risks.

Nampak Flexible carried out a review of systems in place, covering five broad sections including occupational safety and health policy, planning, implementation and operation, checking and corrective action, and management, in attaining OHSAS 18001.

Together with its guidelines, the OHSAS 18001 specification is used and accepted internationally, facilitating internal and external benchmarking and is accessible and supported in more than 70 countries worldwide.

Nampak Flexible technical director Gerald Chotu said OHSAS 18001 is driven by continuous improvement.

"Every new standard and accreditation is an opportunity for improvement, an opportunity to be more, and this is why Flexible undertakes these challenges," Gerald said.

The OHSAS 18001 complements Nampak Flexible's environmental management and quality management accreditations including ISO 14001:2004 and ISO 9001:2000 respectively.
