M&S Completes Retrofit of LEDs

Marks & Spencer has replaced T5 ribbon wall lighting with LEDs in 170 UK stores.

The retailer worked with Phillips and building services contractor, Balfour Beatty Engineering Services (BBES) to complete the LED installation work.

“The new LED lighting is expected to make a significant impact in helping to reduce Marks & Spencer’s non-merchandise lighting costs,” said Steven Palmer, BBES project manager. “The specification of Phillips long life, low energy lighting systems represents significant cost savings for each store.”

For the second phase of works, BBES will work with M&S to install intelligent lighting controls in the stores. M&S said it aims to reduce energy usage in its stores, offices and warehouses by 35 per cent per square foot by 2015.

M&S will also work with BBES on developing systems which allow it to remotely manage in-store lighting, heating and ventilation equipment and refrigeration systems.
