China-Based TV Vendors Extending Markets Abroad

China-based TV vendors are extending efforts to promote their products in markets abroad, and expect lower-priced units will be most popular in China during the second half of 2014.

Industry sources revealed that as LCD TV demand in China is maturing following the reduction of energy-saving subsidies that were issued to local consumers a year ago in an attempt to boost TV sales, local vendors are now looking to markets abroad including mature economies in order to increase performance.

China-based vendors believe lower-priced, large-size units will be a key target for consumers in the North America market and that through increased cooperation with key retailers they will be able to expand their business models and compete with international vendors such as Samsung Electronics and Vizio, two of the most prominent vendors in North America.

The sources said vendors will focus mainly on promoting 55-, 60- and 65-inch units, aiming to beat out other vendors in terms of price. Such a move may be plausible since China's LCD TV supply chains are now more integrated and can supply products at lower cost.

In emerging markets meanwhile, China-based TV vendors are also formulating new sales routes but aim to promote smaller-size TVs in the 30-inch segment, particularly 32-inch units, the sources added.

The sources added that in terms of the China market, vendors are still focusing on lower-priced units, including Ultra HD TVs, but also see rising demand for higher-end units.
