The Maximum Five-star Safety Ratings Was Earned

Jeep Cherokee, Mercedes-Benz CLA, Peugeot 2008, Suzuki Sx4 S-Cross Earn Five-Star Euro NCAP Ratings

The Jeep Cherokee, Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class, Peugeot 2008 and Suzuki SX4 S-Cross have all earned maximum five-star safety ratings from independent crash-tester Euro NCAP.

The cheapest car of the quartet, the all-new Suzuki SX4 S-Cross, achieved the best overall rating, scoring 92 per cent for adult occupant protection, 80 per cent for child occupant protection, 72 per cent for pedestrian protection and 81 per cent for safety assist features.

The five-star result is a step forward for the second-generation SX4, with the current model managing only four-star Euro NCAP and ANCAP ratings when tested in 2006.

The new Suzuki SX4 S-Cross launches in Australia at the beginning of December.

The CLA-Class was the next best of the bunch, scoring ratings of 91 per cent (adult occupant), 75 per cent (child occupant), 74 per cent (pedestrian) and 81 per cent (safety assist).

The Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class launched in Australia earlier this month, priced from $49,900.

The all-new Jeep Cherokee matched the Suzuki with the equal-best adult occupant protection rating, and despite not leading the way in any of the four criteria, the Peugeot 2008 also performed solidly and easily qualified for a five-star rating.

The 2008 went on sale in Australia earlier this month, while production delays have pushed the launch of the new Cherokee back to early 2014.
