As a phase-two expansion of its PMMA plant in Shanghai, German specialty polymers supplier Evonik Industries AG has doubled its production capacity for Plexiglas-branded PMMA molding compounds to 40,000 metric tons. The move acknowledges the “continued, undiminished” growth of the regional market and strengthens Evonik’s leading position, the company said in a news release. The expansion also helps to meet growing demand outside of Asia, particularly in Europe. The PMMA facility, part of a world-scale methacrylate complex that claimed investment of more than 200 million euro, originally started production in 2008 to serve the Chinese and other Asian markets.
