Arburg to Demonstrate Freeformer for Medical Manufacturing

Arburg, a German manufacturer of plastic processing machines, will demonstrate Arburg Plastic Freeforming (APF) for the automated production of plastic parts for medical applications at Interplas 2017 to be held in Birmingham, UK, from September 26 to 28.

The company will use an Allrounder from the electric entry-level Golden Electric machine series, using the example of ‘stacking boxes’, to demonstrate the efficiency of the electric machine series.

The Freeformer is capable of processing the same materials used in injection moulding, and the company will demonstrate this with implants made from medical-grade polylactide.

In a release, Arburg stated that Allrounder 470 E Golden Electric with a clamping force of 1,000 kN and size 290 injection unit will produce 74 gm moulded part in a cycle time of 20 seconds. A linear Multilift Select robotic system will then put the stacking boxes onto a conveyor belt.

The machines are available in four sizes, with clamping forces from 600 to 2,000 kN, and offer excellent price/performance ratio and fast cycles.

The company will also demonstrate the possibilities of the freely programmable central Selogica control system using a vertical Allrounder 275 V, including graphical sequence programming, automatic plausibility checks, and integration of robotic systems and peripheral equipment.

Colin Tirel, managing director of the Arburg subsidiary in Warwick, said: “The Interplas trade fair affords an excellent platform for presenting our wide range of machines for the production-efficient manufacture of plastic parts to our customers in the UK and Ireland. This year, we will be presenting an electric Allrounder Golden Electric injection moulding machine, a vertical 275 V hydraulic Allrounder and the Freeformer for industrial additive manufacturing."
