China-Based Makers Eyeing 3D Printer Market

China-based Xery 3D Printing Science & Technology (Anhui), which was founded in 2013, has an annual production capacity of 50,000 FDM (fused deposition modeling) home-use 3D printers, 20,000 FDM business-use units, 5,000 SLS (selective laser sintering) industrial units and 500,000 tons of 3D printing materials.

Xery has invested CNY600 million (US$98.0 million) to set up a R&D and production base of 3D printing equipment, components, materials and software in central China.

Taiwan-based Kinpo Electronics and its Thailand-based affiliate Cal-Comp Electronics have established a Taiwan-based joint venture, XYZprinting, to produce 3D printers for own-brand sale. XYXprinting said it expects to ship nearly 40,000 own-brand consumer 3D printers in 2014 and aims to ship 120,000 units in 2015.

Aurora, a Taiwan-based distributor of office automation machines in the Taiwan and China markets, has become an exclusive 3D printer sales agent for US-based vendor Stratasys in the China market. In addition, Aurora has cooperated with Taiwan government-sponsored Industrial Technology Research Institute to develop 3D printers for sale under its own brand F1.
