Turkey's Steel Export Amounted to $2.1 Billion, Decreasing by 10.6 Percent

According to the provisional foreign trade statistics compiled by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) and the Turkish Undersecretariat of Customs, in April this year Turkey's foreign trade deficit decreased by 30.3 percent to $7.21 billion compared to $10.35 billion in April last year. In the iron and steel sector, Turkey's foreign trade deficit was $696.14 million in April this year, decreasing by 13 percent from $800.5 million recorded in April 2013.

In April this year, Turkey's iron and steel exports ranked third among the products with the highest export value, totaling $872.28 million, up 3.9 percent from March and down 7.3 percent year on year. Meanwhile, in the given month the value of exports of articles of iron or steel, which ranked sixth among the products with the highest export value, increased by 13 percent month on month and rose by 11.5 percent year on year, amounting to $549.66 million.

Meanwhile, in the first four months of the current year, the value of the country's iron and steel exports totaled $3.35 billion, while the value of its exports of articles of iron or steel amounted to $2.1 billion, decreasing by 10.6 percent and up 6.4 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of 2013.

Motor vehicles and parts was the domestic sector with the highest export value in the January-April period this year with $6.08 billion, up 11.8 percent year on year.
