Average Price in The U.S. up 20 Cents From November

The average price for December milk in the U.S. is $21.80 per hundredweight, up 20 cents from November.

Wisconsin's milk price for December is expected to be $21.90, up a dime from November, California is projected to average $20.50 up 49 cents from the previous month and the largest increase of any state.

The National Ag Statistics Service projects 15 of the 23 major dairy states will see an increase in milk price, 5 will hold steady while New York, Vermont and Kansas producers will see a decline.

USDA Dairy Market News says producer margins in Western Europe are good enough to encourage expansion especially in Ireland and the Netherlands. In fact producers are finding it profitable to pay levies for increasing production over quota as most dairy product supplies are tight going into 2014. Producers in Poland are also showing signs of increased production.
