Xylem Has Designed and Installed The First ICEAS Advanced SBR and UV Municipal Wastewater

Xylem Inc. has designed and installed the first ICEAS Advanced Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) and ultraviolet (UV) municipal wastewater treatment solution in Vietnam to improve the water quality of the Sai Gon River.

This ambitious project will enhance the local environment by treating domestic wastewater in the region, which has a population of 175,000 people. The new wastewater treatment solution, located in the Thu Dau Mot City, Binh Duong province, will be officially launched today (31st May).

Enviro Engineering Corporation, a company of Saigon Water Infrastructure Corporation based in Ho Chi Minh City, partnered with Xylem on the project.

Consisting of Xylem?s Wedeco TAK55 open-channel UV disinfection system and Xylem?s Sanitaire ICEAS Advanced (SBR) Process Solution, the system includes diffusers, decanters, blowers and monitoring and controls, as well as a variety of Xylem?s Flygt N-technology pumps and compact mixers. The system replaces traditional technologies and has an average capacity of 17,650m3 per day.

Speaking at the launch event, Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, president and general director of Binh Duong Water Supply Sewerage Environment Co., Ltd. said, ?Today marks an important milestone in the advancement of Vietnam?s water and wastewater infrastructure. This new facility will make a significant contribution to the improvement of the local environment and quality of life for the resident community.?

Allan Hendry, Xylem?s vice president and managing director for the Greater Asia region said, ?We are delighted to have designed and developed this ground-breaking facility which will have a very positive impact on the Binh Duong region. As well as delivering high quality wastewater, our solution is sustainable and cost-effective. In addition, the system?s modular design means that it can be easily expanded, an important consideration for this facility where an additional three phases will be built to cater for the increasing population.?

Xylem?s high performing Sanitaire ICEAS Advanced SBR delivers substantial reductions in capital, maintenance and operational costs. A compact sized system, the Sanitaire ICEAS requires less space and therefore, less construction work than alternative solutions. Continuous inflow provides equal loading and flow to all basins, which simplifies operation and process control. Xylems intuitive control system, also makes it easy for the operator to run the system and make control changes when necessary. The process also enables single basin operation that is particularly useful for maintenance and for taking basins out of operation in low flow conditions.

Xylem?s Wedeco TAK55 open-channel UV disinfection system is a sustainable and environmentally friendly disinfection solution that eliminates the risk of harmful by-product formation, such as trihalomethanes (THMs) which can be caused by chlorination. By changing the DNA of germs and bacteria, UV prevents further cell division, rendering more than 99.99 percent of all pathogens harmless in seconds. The solution has a small footprint and the ability to destroy chlorine-resistant micro-organisms. A consistently high UV light yield is achieved as a result of sustainable, long-life UV lamps.
