Honda Released an Official Teaser Sketch of a New MPV

Honda has released an official teaser sketch of a new MPV that will debut at the Indonesia international motor show in Jakarta in September.

Based on the sub-light Honda Brio city car, the new seven-seater has been developed specifically for the Asian market by Honda R&D Asia Pacific in Thailand and Honda R&D Indonesia.

It will become the first Honda introduced to Indonesia’s entry-level MPV segment, the biggest category in the country’s expanding automotive market.

Honda says the all-new people-mover offers a spacious cabin with three seating rows and combines the brand’s principles of “innovative design [and] advanced safety”.

The Honda MPV will be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which the manufacturer insists provides both “sporty performance and good fuel efficiency”.

Honda Prospect Motor Indonesia president director Tomoki Uchida confirmed the Brio-based MPV had been designed especially for the needs of customers and road characteristics in Indonesia.

It will become the first vehicle produced at Honda’s new Second Plant in Karawang, and is scheduled to roll off the assembly line from early 2014.

More details will be revealed when Honda unveils its new people-mover in Jakarta on September 19.
