Germany-based labeling paper producer UPM has been awarded the EU Ecolabel recognition for adhering to its compliance with rigid environmental criteria concerning energy consumption and chemical waste levels, in addition to air and water conservation.
UPM-made sheets and reels complement the paper products that have been carrying the EU Ecolabel, and by the end of 2012, about 8m tons of the UPM paper would carry the Ecolabel.
The Ecolabel guides consumers and purchasers in buying products with superior environmental performance, with the assistance of EU and European Commission nations.
UPM Paper Business Group environmental director P ivi Rissanen claimed the EU Ecolabel is a proof of the product's overall environmental performance with less impact.
According to the firm, the maximum of UPM copy and graphic papers produced in Europe have been awarded the EU Ecolabel till date, and is leading the industry with 200 paper grades produced by 15 paper mills.
