Extrusion Systems Provider Davis-Standard Plans to Expand Manufacturing Facility in US

Extrusion and converting systems firm Davis-Standard is planning to expand its manufacturing facility at in Pawcatuck, Connecticut, US.

The expansion plan, which includes adding 15,000ft2 of manufacturing space, is expected to create over 30 jobs in the next two years. The site currently employs over 400 people.

Featuring manufacturing and precision machining of advanced multi-layer blown film dies, the facility will allow Davis-Standard to move all blown film manufacturing for its Gloucester Engineering product line from Gloucester, Massachusetts, to Pawcatuck.

Backed by $1.3m grant from the State of Connecticut Department of Economic Community Development (DECD), the expansion plan is scheduled to be completed later this fall.

The funding, however, is subject to approval from the State Bond Commission.

Davis-Standard president and CEO Jim Murphy said: "As the largest extrusion machinery manufacturer in North America, this expansion is a necessity for our business"

The firm strengthened its blown film product line by acquiring Gloucester Engineering in last fall.

Murphy added: "Bringing Gloucester's manufacturing capabilities to our Connecticut site makes sense for several reasons. One of those reasons is to integrate technology; together we are now the largest manufacturer of seven to 11-layer blown film dies.

"These dies are used for making highly technical multi-layer films used in packaging and pharmaceutical applications.

"To that regard, this expansion aligns with our mission of offering customers excellent quality, value and customer service. The larger facility will allow us to do that."

Separately, Davis-Standard said Maxi-Blast selected Thermatic extruders and installed at its new 40,000ft2 facility in St. Petersburg, Florida.

The Davis-Standard extruders are designed to process nylon and polycarbonate pellets used in the line of cabinets for cleaning screws and molds and deflashing parts.
