The BOSS Synergy Team, formerly the BOSS Standardisation and Technical Committee, are pleased to announce that the Industry Standard Product Classification (ISPC) codes – also known as the BOSS Codes – for 2015 are now available to download from the BOSS website.
It has been decided that from now on, there will be no new Level 3s (5th digit of the code) added to the list – although existing Level 3s will remain.
Richard Wallington, BOSS Synergy Team Chairman, explained “It is generally accepted that the current 3rd level is inconsistent; it often defines more than one attribute or defines an attribute which is not mutually exclusive. A product classification should not be used to define colour which is often the case at the third level ISPC.” He added that “Coding for new products should therefore always have a zero as the last (5th) digit.”
Until 31 December the current 2014 file and the new 2015 file will be available on the BOSS website – after that date only the 2015 will be available. The changes made to the 2015 file are clearly indicated.
