Parmentine is offering the pre-washed potatoes in a K3 cup, which feature a cardboard wrap to reduce the heat from contact with the hot potatoes, the company said.

The plastic cup, which can is microwave-friendly, comes with a fork integrated into the lid, thereby allowing consumption straight from the cup.

Greiner said that the cup, which can hold 250g of potato and 25g of sauce, is made out of polypropylene. The cup's lid is made using Amorphous PET.

Before buying, consumers will have an option to see the product through a special window in the wrap.

Greiner Packaging K Europe sales director Kenneth Boldog said: "The cardboard and plastic combination makes our K3 cups very popular.

"The cups not only look and feel good, they also appeal to environmentally conscious consumers because of the reduced use of plastic. These advantages also tipped the scale for Parmentine."

Parmentine's potato snack is currently available in tomato-basil and quark-chives flavors in France and Germany. The firm plans to launch the snack in the UK in the near future.

Recently, Greiner Packaging announced its plan to offer injection moulding with in-mould labelling (IML) technology to its customers in the US.

As part of this effort, Greiner has partnered with American company WhiteWave Foods to create a new cup using IML technology.
