Crown Wins Safety Award

Crown Equipment, one of the world’s largest material handling companies, earned a win in the WorkCover NSW SafeWork awards for the Best Workplace Health and Safety Management System (Private Sector).

According to WorkCover NSW, the award “recognises demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement of workplace health and safety outcomes through the implementation of an integrated systems approach.”

National manager, safety, risk, environment and quality, Crown Equipment Anthony Keating said he was pleased to accept this award on behalf of all of Crown’s employees.

“They are the ones who have embraced our health and safety initiatives, and they are the ones who have driven down our lost time and injury rates to record lows,” Mr Keating said.

“Crown achieved the number one position because of its dedication to and investment in safety beyond compliance, and its significant reduction in claims during the last five years.”

Crown managing director Greg Simmonds said he is pleased that the collective effort to continually lift safety standards throughout the organisation has been recognised at such a high level.

“Throughout the years, Crown’s staff and management have been making a concerted effort to develop and implement systems that have a tangible impact on our workplace safety performance – with results that are reflected in our culture and the bottom line,” Mr Simmonds said.

Crown’s award-winning safety system provides the architecture that has been designed to embed a repeatable way of managing workplace health and safety that includes the integration of deliberate practices, processes and linkages. Crown says it has moved beyond simply focusing on legislative compliance, into a values-based learning process.

The company’s values are said to be designed to guide the behaviour of all workers at every level of the organisation.
