Magnussen Is a New Player in The Upholstery Arena at The High Point Market

There's a new player in the upholstery arena at the High Point Market, and company officials say the line will allow their dealers "to buy a room that separates them from the masses with better fabrics, sinuous wood and down-feather seats." (See video at bootom of page.)

Magnussen Home Furnishings, a case goods importer, is introducing 18 upholstery groups, including six in leather, in its new 60,000-square-foot showroom in the International Home Furnishings Center, C-1003.

The company partnered with California-based upholstery manufacturer Michael Nicholas Designs on the line, which will be made in Vietnam and China.

"Our first goal for this market is to become a whole-home solution," said Nathan Cressman, president of Magnussen. "We have developed an upholstery product that flows with our other categories, so we're offering correlating room settings throughout the showroom."

The company expects the first upholstery shipment from Vietnam in approximately 90 days. Upholstery can be shipped along with Magnussen's bedroom, occasional, casual dining, entertainment and youth bedroom product lines.

"We can ship as little as 250 cubes, so we take the inventory expense out of the retailers' hands," Cressman said. "We make it easier for the retailer to flow product."

Featured styles for the new upholstery collection include transitional and "tailored traditional," according to Cressman. Price points start at $899 for sofas and $1,999 for sectionals.

"This is a direct container program of better goods at value pricing," Cressman said. "It's a fashion product line with mixability."
