Samsung Occupies Top of Global Market Share in 7 Major Categories Such as Mobile Terminals

According to the survey on the market share of major goods and services in 2012 worldwide, South Korea's Samsung Electronics Group occupies the top of global market share in seven categories among the 50 categories covered in this survey. Including LG Electronics, Korean companies have expanded advantage in the digital product market.

Samsung tops in 7 major categories such as mobile terminals, smart phones, organic EL panel, flat panel TVs, lithium-ion batteries and semiconductor memory DRAM and NAND-type flash memory used in personal computers. However, in the LCD panel, tablet PC, white light-emitting diode (LED), CMOS image sensor, multifunction machine and copier fields, Samsung is also among the top three, it demonstrated its overwhelming advantage in the digital product market.

In LCD panel market, Samsung and LG Group totally account for nearly half of global market share, while in the flat-panel TV and lithium-ion battery markets, also take up more than 40%. In the television and battery-related market, Japanese companies are in the pursuit of profit instead of market share, which led to the shrinking of market share, by contrast, South Korea's Samsung and LG have expanded market share in many categories.

In the smart phone market, Samsung throws off Apple with the sluggish growth and achieved an increase of 11.1% year-on-year in last year, and maintain the first place in smart phone field with market share of 30.2%. Meanwhile, with the growth in smart phones, Samsung also realized an increase of 4.2% in the overall mobile terminal share, to be the number 1 with the share of 23.5% taking the place of Finland's Nokia.

Although Japanese companies keeps the first place in the white LED, CMOS and other components, as well as digital cameras and camcorders and other fields. However, Korean companies are also relatively enhanced strength in these areas. In the camera market Japanese companies have monopolized, Samsung ranks No. 5 for first time, Samsung takes the second place in white LED market, and ranks No. 3 in the CMOS market.
