Certification service provider, Integrated Service Technology (IST), has announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hong Kong-based testing service firm Intertek to combine resources such as the US Energy Star certification for the LED industry.
IST noted that by cooperating with Intertek, the pool of resources will include certification for up-, mid-, and down-stream LED products (from chips to lighting fixtures) and this will enable the firms to provide total solutions that include Energy Star certification. In particular, IST will provide certification solutions for upstream epitaxial crystal, production, and packaging while Intertek provides certification solutions for downstream vendors (testing of lighting fixtures).
IST added that Intertek is one of the certification service providers authorized by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the US. Intertek can directly issue licenses to customers. IST expects to branch out services to international lighting firms through the cooperation with Intertek.
IST has LM-80 standard testing labs that have been certified by the EPA. After obtaining third-party LED LM-80 Energy Star testing lab certification at end of July 2011, the firm has been receiving testing orders from both international and domestic LED firms. To meet demand, IST has been expanding its LED LM-80 testing lab capacity.
