Northern Light Provided a Range of Services for The Newly Refurbished Assembly Rooms

UK - Northern Light recently provided a range of services for the newly refurbished Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh's New Town.

The completion of a £9.3m refurbishment project saw the period features of the 18th century, A-listed building carefully restored and a dramatic enhancement to the sound and lighting systems within the venue.

Northern Light Direct assisted with this upgrade via the provision of a wide range of equipment that will enhance the installed systems to create a state-of-the-art events venue.

A variety of ETC product was provided, including ten Source Four LED Lustr+ zoom profiles, 24 Selador Desire Lustr+ D40s, an ETC Element 40 console for the production lighting control and a SmartFade as a pre-set control desk. The idea behind using the ETC Lustr+ range is to provide versatile, controllable lighting with minimal maintenance requirements. Additional lighting fixtures supplied included Selecon Rama fresnels.

A Pulsar OS1 Outstation was also provided and will be used for pre-sets, to enable clients to select pre-set lighting states without the input of a technician.

For stage communications, Northern Light Direct has provided a range of Tecpro kit, as well as manufacturing drapes to be hung from Triple E curtain tracks in the main ballroom area. Finally, some mains distribution and portable dimming - in the shape of Zero 88 Betapack 3s - were also supplied.

Simultaneously, Northern Light's events arm - NL Productions - has been busy on-site at the Assembly Rooms setting up the temporary equipment required by AR Fringe for the run of the 2012 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

AR Fringe is run by Salt 'n' Sauce Promotions, the company behind The Stand Comedy Clubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle. Salt 'n' Sauce Promotions have awarded NL Productions a three-year contract to supply and fit-out the venue in preparation for the large number of Fringe shows that take place annually.

Tommy Sheppard, director of AR Fringe, said: "We appointed NL Productions as our technical consultants and suppliers at the beginning of the year and we are delighted with the way the relationship is working out. The advice is good, the prices keen and the equipment is first rate. We're looking forward to making a success of the new Assembly Rooms together and going forward in years to come to make it the best programmed and best equipped venue in the world's largest arts festival."

This year, NL Productions are providing a range of lighting, sound, control, projections and rigging systems to ensure that the Assembly Rooms provide the best possible technical specification for the shows and productions taking place there during August.

Colin Cuthbert, managing director of Northern Light, commented: "The Assembly Rooms is an iconic Edinburgh venue, which plays host to a fantastic range of shows and events, particularly during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. I feel a great sense of pride that Northern Light have been involved in the recent refurbishment of the Assembly Rooms and that we will be working within this venue in our home city for many years to come."
