Serbia Has Invited Investment in The Country's Textile Sector From Turkish Companies

Serbia, a country located at the crossroads of Central and Southeast Europe, has invited investment in the country’s textile sector from Turkish companies, InSerbia reported.

Speaking at a textile fair in Novi Pazar city located in southwest Serbia, in the Raška district, Rasim Ljajic, Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Internal Trade and Telecommunications, said Novi Pazar should reemerge as the centre of textile industry in Serbia, as the Central Serbian region has top quality and highly skilled workforce plus an experience of producing textiles for more than twenty years.

The Minister emphasized that Serbia wants a legal textile market and stressed on the need for investing in new technologies.

The textile fair saw participation of 36 exhibitors—30 from Turkey and 6 form Serbia. Mr. Ljajic said the fair opens new prospects for the textile industry of the country, as well as for economic relations between the two countries.

He said the Turkish companies participating in the fair should not only sell their products in Serbia, but should also set up their production facilities in Serbia, for which the Government would provide incentives.

Mehmet Kemal Bozay, Turkish ambassador to Serbia, said his country wants Novi Pazar to be a bridge of cooperation between the two nations.

Oguz Yalcin, director of the Turkish textile company Meridyen, said the textile fair was not only a good platform for textile companies from Turkey to present themselves, but also an opportunity to meet potential investors. He urged Serbian manufacturers to collaborate with Turkish enterprises to help create new employment opportunities in Serbia.
