Foton Tunland: Chinese UTE Updated for OZ

The Chinese-built Foton Tunland has been updated for 2014 with new technology, equipment, model designations and reduced driveaway pricing.

Distributed locally by FAA Automotive Australia, the one-tonne dual cab Foton Tunland gains Bluetooth connectivity as standard equipment across the three-model range along with a new leather-wrapped steering wheel with phone and audio controls.

Isofix child seat anchor points have also been added to the two rear outboard seats, however,?electronic stability control continues to be left off the three-star ANCAP safety rated ute's standard features or options list.

Available in rear- or four-wheel drive, the Tunland is powered by a 120kW/360Nm 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel tied to a five-speed manual transmission.

Previously split into the entry-level 'Quality' and high-spec 'Luxury' variants, Foton has refreshed the titles of the two respectively, opting for the simple designations of TK and TL.

Down from its previous list price of $28,000, the Tunland TK 4×2 is now priced at $26,990 driveaway. The 4×4 TK also drops $2010 to $32,990 driveaway. Both feature front and rear fog lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a four-speaker stereo, and a limited-slip differential.

The TL, exclusively available in 4×4 guise, is now also $2010 cheaper at $32,990 driveaway and sees the addition of leather-composite seat upholstery and heated door mirrors.

Currently based in Queensland, FAA Automotive Australia says the Tunland dual cab 4×4 and 4×2 utes will be joined by a new single cab chassis model with a tray body before the end of the year.

FAA is also planning to introduce a light-commercial van, a mini bus and an SUV to its Australian range "in the medium term" and expand its dealer network from its current 20 to 30 by the end of 2014.

This year marks Foton's first on the Australian market, with it shifting 105 Tunland 4×4 and 4×2 utes to the end of August.
