Liberty Mutual Insurance Reduces Many Positions, Due to Demand From Extra Employees

Diversified insurance conglomerate Liberty Mutual Insurance is planning to reduce nearly 425 positions in Ireland, due to demand from extra employees for voluntary redundancy.

A Liberty spokesman was quoted by Irish Times as saying that due to high demand from staff for the program, the firm decided to consider the request of some additional employees to leave.

The insurer said that total 380 staff opted for voluntary layoff whereas extra 45 employees were chosen for compulsory redundancies "because of the need to align management roles and also frontline and support levels across the company."

The planned job cuts represent approximately one third of its 1,450 work-strength, as reported by the news agency.

In November 2012, the underwriter said that it will eliminate nearly 285 positions and claimed that majority of staff will take voluntary retirement.

As per the job cut plan, the insurer will slash nearly 110 jobs at company headquarters in Cavan, 115 in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, and 200 at Blanchardstown in Dublin.
