Industry Insiders Specified The Company as ASE Inc Will Invest Over NT$50 Billion

Taipei, Dec. 22, 2012 (CENS)--The Industrial Development Bureau, under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, approved yesterday (Dec. 21) applications of three Taiwanese businesses to return to Taiwan for investments. Although the IDB refused to identify one of the three companies, upon the company’s request, industry insiders specified the company as ASE Inc., Taiwan’s leading IC assembler, which will invest over NT$50 billion on the island.

The other two companies receiving the approval of the IDB are Eminent Luggage Corp., Taiwan’s leading luggage maker, and Tailift, the leading forklift maker on the island, which will invest over NT$3 billion in combination, creating 500 job vacancies.

The Council for Economic Planning and Development (CEPD) put forth the “program for encouraging Taiwanese enterprises to return to Taiwan for investments.” The IDB started to receive investment applications under the auspices of the program from November and has so far approved five investment projects, including the three companies which received the green light yesterday. These companies will be entitled to various incentives, in the fields of foreign labor, tariff, and special loans.

Industry insiders noted that ASE’s investment project is mainly for expanding its existing production base in Kaohsiung. The investment scale will top NT$50 billion in the next three years, mainly for the construction of high-end IC assembly firms.

ASE now has a workforce of 30,000 in Taiwan and 150,000 in the mainland. The aforementioned investment project will expand the workforce in Taiwan to 60,000.
