Taiwan LED chip makers expect to benefit from orders from Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics for direct-type LED TVs as of the second quarter of 2014.

Despite orders fluctuating from vendors in the China market, the Taiwan makers expect Korea-based TV vendors to put in increased orders for Ultra HD TVs and other new LCD TVs that will be released throughout 2014.

The TV vendors have increased expectations for the Ultra HD LCD TV segment as their high-end units amid high costs for OLED materials, which has led to high pricing for OLED TVs.

LED chip makers such as Epistar expect to see a 15% increase in revenues as a result while LED package makers also expect to see increases as well.

In terms of market segments, Samsung and LG will aim to tackle the high-end Ultra HD TV market, with panels produced in house from Samsung Display and LG Display, and will also bump up its competitiveness in the entry-level market, using panels mostly from AU Optronics (AUO) and Innolux.
