China and the EU Held the Commemorative Activity of the 10th Anniversary of the Intellectual Property Dialogue

On June 29, at the 17th China-EU Leadership Summit, the commemorative activity of the 10th anniversary of the China-EU Intellectual Property Dialogue Mechanism was held in Brussels. Chinese Assistant Minister of Commerce Tong Daochi, on behalf of the Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, attended the meeting and made a speech, together with the Trade Commissioner of the European Commission Cecilia Malmström. The two parties decided to enhance the China-EU Intellectual Property Dialogue mechanism to the vice ministerial level.

Tong said that, as an important content of the reciprocal and win-win China-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, China-EU economic and trade relation has always maintained a sustainable and stable development, and both China and EU is the important economic and trade partner of each other. In terms of the intellectual property, China and EU has always maintained a favorable communication and dialogue. Since the comprehensive operation in 2005, the China-EU intellectual property dialogue mechanism has become one of the platforms with the most diversified patterns and the richest contents of the foreign exchanges of China’s intellectual property. The bilateral intellectual property dialogue cooperation has exerted some positive effects.

Tong pointed out that, at present, China’s economic transformation is accelerated, and the inner demand of the intellectual property system is further strengthened. The two parties have common interests on strengthening intellectual property protection. He hoped that the two parties, on the basis of the favorable cooperation in the past decade, would continue to play the role of the intellectual property dialogue mechanism, further strengthen experience sharing and projects cooperation, and coordinate and promote the inclusive and balanced development of the intellectual property rules, in order to inject more vitality to the healthy development of the bilateral economic and trade relation.

Malmström said that China-EU intellectual property dialogue has played an important role in promoting the bilateral economic and trade relation and deepening cooperation in intellectual property in the past ten years. She hoped that the two parties would look to the future, and carry out practical cooperation, and seek common development.

Deputy Director of the State Administration of the Ministry of Commerce Ma Zhengqi, and the Deputy Director of the State Intellectual Property Office He Zhimin attended the meeting and made key speeches. Almost 120 personnel from the governmental departments, the industrial circle and the academic circle attended the commemorative activity.

On the day, witnessed by Premier Li Keqiang and the President of the European Commission Juncker, Minister Gao Huchegn and the Trade Commissioner Malmström signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Strengthening China-Eu Intellectual Property Dialogue Mechanism.
