US-China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Cooperation Forum Grandly Held during the China Import Expo, Kunshan

US-China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Cooperation Forum & Match-making Meeting, jointly hosted by China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu province, Jiangsu Trade Development Association and the US-China Energy Cooperation Program, were successfully held in the Huaqiao International Expo Center in Kunshan on the afternoon of May 20, 2015.

The chairman of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products Zhang Yujing, the deputy director of the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu province Jiang Xin, the chief commercial consul of the American Consulate-General in Shanghai Cameron Werker attended and addressed the forum. The vice-chairman of Jiangsu Trade Development Association Huang Zheng, the vice-mayor of Kunshan Jin Jianhong, leaders from environmental protection system such as the Department of Environmental Protection of Jiangsu, the Environmental Protection Agency of Suqian city and the Environmental Protection Agency of Kunshan city and many Chinese environmental protection application enterprises participated in the forum and the match-making meeting. Participants from the two countries exceed 170 in total, far more than the expected scale.

Chairman Zhang Yujing pointed out in his address that the “US-China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Cooperation Forum”, first convened during the period of China Import Expo, Kunshan and jointly hosted by the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products and the US-China Energy Cooperation Program, is not only an important activity under the cooperative mechanism framework among provinces and states in 2015, but also a new cooperative attempt. He hoped that this activity can help further promote enterprises of the two countries to carry out the in-depth communication and cooperation in sessions such as the products trade, the technology transformation and common research and development in the energy conservation and environmental protection field.. The government work report made by Premier Li Keqiang during the “two sessions” in this March clearly said that the market of energy conservation and environmental protection in China enjoys a great potential and efforts should be made to make the industry of energy conservation and environmental protection an emerging pillar industry. This will provide great business opportunities for the enterprises all over world including the United States.
In his speech,deputy director Jiang Xin affirmed the achievements of the development of the environmental protection industry made by Jiangsu province, pointing out that at present, the innovative capabilities and technologies of the enterprises are still insufficient, which also provide huge business opportunities for the American enterprises to enter the market of Jiangsu province.

Mr. Cameron Werker expressed warm congratulations on the convening of this forum on behalf of the American Consulate-General in Shanghai and the US Department of Commerce, believing that the decisions and the measures of the Chinese government and Jiangsu province on developing the environmental protection industry are inspiring. He felt glad to see that so many high-quality enterprises of the United States participate in this forum, hoping that enterprises of the two countries can work together to create a more clean environment for China and the whole world.

Leading enterprises at home and abroad such as GE, Dow Chemistry, Birtley, Jiangsu Institute of Environmental Sciences, Zhaosheng Group and China Academy of Machinery Science and Technology delivered keynote speeches on hot environmental issues such as the water treatment, the sludge treatment and the atmospheric controlling, and shared the latest environmental protection technologies and products with participants.

The highlights of this forum are prominent. Firstly, the level of participants is high. 11 American enterprises participate in this forum, among which 6 are the Fortune 500 companies. Chinese participants are also the first-class enterprises of the membrane technology of water treatment and the sludge treatment. Secondly, the concentration ratio of industry is high and the matching attribute is strong. Enterprises of both countries are in the upstream and the downstream of the three sub-industries of desulfurization and denitration, the water treatment, and the sludge treatment. Their strong matching attribute is conducive to carrying out the communication and cooperation. Thirdly, the coverage of participants is wide. Governments, research institutes and enterprises of the two countries respectively elaborated the policies, technical requirements and supplies of the environmental protection industry from difference perspectives, which showed the major industries the direction of the cooperation between enterprises of the two countries. Fourthly, the forum is practical and high-efficient. During the match-making session after the forum, more than 20 Chinese enterprises such as Nanjing Iron and Steel Company, China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation and Suntech conducted in-depth discussions and communication with American enterprises such as GE, GE, Dow Chemistry and Birtley. Nanjing Iron and Steel Company agreed on arranging the site inspection with GE as soon as possible, hoping to establish the equity investment cooperative relationship with the leading enterprises of the environmental protection of the United States. China National Machinery Import and Export Corporation and the US-China Energy Cooperation Program expressed the strong willingness on investing in the advanced environmental protection technologies of the United States. Suntech and Dow Chemistry carried out deep discussions and technical communication on the issues of total nitrogen of wastewater treatment.
