Canada Introduced New Laws of Labels to Ensure All Products Safety

The New Brunswick government in Canada has introduced new laws in a bid to ensure all products that are labeled as organic are in accordance with national standards.

With the latest move, all the producers are required to obtain certification from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency-accredited body so as to use the label.

Around 56 nationally-certified organic farms in the province have to obtain certification, under the new regulations.

New Brunswick's Atlantic Canadian Organic Regional Network coordinator Tegan Renner was quoted by cbcnews as saying that the marketplace has other use of the word 'organic.'

According to Renner, the network is moving to farmers, retailers, restaurants, markets and consumers to increase knowledge pertaining to the regulations.

The network reach will also promote the province's organics in the coming years in collaboration with the department.

In 2009, the federal regulations for organic products came into force, making certification mandatory to the Canada Organic Standard for products that are being sold.
