B&B Have Earned Certification in The Rigorous MEF Carrier Ethernet Certification

B&B Electronics Manufacturing announced that two of its technology experts, Shane Duffy and David Zaveski, have earned certification in the rigorous MEF (Metro Ethernet Forum) Carrier Ethernet Certified Professional (MEF-CECP) Program. The MEF-CECP is a vendor-neutral technical certification created to recognize professionals who have obtained the expertise needed to design, market, deploy and support Carrier Ethernet equipment, networks, and services that represent the next generation of telecommunications technology.

Shane Duffy and David Zaveski now join an elite group of only 1000 professionals in over 47 countries that have earned the MEF-CECP certification, supporting the growth of Carrier Ethernet. B&B Electronics is a U.S. based developer and manufacturer of copper and fiber optic networking products, including demarcation devices, which support service providers.

The MEF-CECP exam covers Carrier Ethernet technology and MEF fundamentals in the following subject areas:

  • Carrier Ethernet Service Definitions
  • Transport Technologies
  • Access Technologies
  • Basic MEF Definitions
  • UNI & ENNI; EVC & OVC Service Attributes
  • MEF Certification Programs
  • Applications for Carrier Ethernet
  • Comparing Ethernet with other L2 and L3 Services
  • Circuit Emulation Services
  • Service OAM

As a vendor-neutral certification program, the MEF-CECP aims to adhere to and teach participants a defined common Carrier Ethernet language, focusing on industry-wide technology, terminology and concepts. The goal is to eliminate the need to learn proprietary, third party product details.

Sean Harrigan, CEO of B&B Electronics, explained the certification's benefits for an equipment manufacturer. "Having MEF expertise in-house will allow us to enhance our demarcation devices as well as our devices supporting cellular backhaul for service providers in MEF rated carrier networks," explained Harrigan. "It will also help us communicate both internally and with customers in terms of well-defined MEF language."

The MEF's mission is to accelerate the worldwide adoption of Carrier-class Ethernet networks and services. As the defining body for Carrier Ethernet, MEF is a global industry alliance comprising more than 220 organizations including telecommunications service providers, cable MSOs, network equipment/software manufacturers, semiconductor vendors and testing organizations.
