The G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting completed on October 6. Chinese Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng and his Turkish counterpart Nihat Zeybekci jointly attended the news conference after the meeting and briefed on the G20 Trade Ministers’ Meeting and its next session.
Gao Hucheng expressed congratulations to Turkey for the success of Trade Ministers’ Meeting at first. He said all sides held in-depth talks on some topics at the meeting, reached much consensus and achieved fruitful results, making preparations well for the coming Antalya Summit to be held in November. He also pointed out that the global trade and investment downturn and weak economic growth are the main challenges facing the world at present. As a main platform for global economic cooperation, G20 is obliged and able to promote the global trade, put forth plans and contribute to world economic growth.
Gao Hucheng said China will be the host country of the G20 in 2016, and the trade ministers’ meeting will be held in the city of Shanghai. He said as the world’s largest trade power, largest FDI destination and largest net capital exporter, China attaches much importance to trade and investment. China will strive to realize the G20 trade ministers’ meeting mechanism next year on this year’s basis and promote the G20 to make greater contributions and play a bigger role in advancing the global trade and investment as well as the economic growth.
Gao Hucheng said the Chinese side has started the preparatory work for the 2016 meeting. Very good advice in trade and investment areas has been proposed by some G20 members and experts from international organizations. For example, enhancing the G20 trade ministers’ meeting mechanism safeguards G20 trade and investment cooperation; promoting multilateral and regional coordination serves as a joint force for trade and investment liberalization and facilitation. It also strengthens cross-border investment policy exchange and cooperation, improves the level of trade facilitation, and enhances the robust recovery of global trade and investment. Furthermore, it aids small and medium-sized enterprises and the developing countries to improve their ability of conducting trade and investment. The Chinese side holds an open attitude on those suggestions and will carry out studies and solicit opinions from all sides in order to make an agenda which reflects the common intentions, covers all main issues, and raises the G20 trade and investment cooperation to a new step. China expects to join hands with all sides, to consider concerns of all sides, to make active efforts, to guide and build a more comprehensive international trade and economic system that reflects development demands, to strive for practical cooperation initiatives in capacity cooperation, trade financing, trade promotion and aid and ability construction, and to realize the inclusive, balanced and sustainable development.
