6th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum Held in Macao

The 6th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum, jointly hosted by China International Contractors Association and Economy Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, was held in Macao Special Administrative Region on June 4. Deputy China International Trade Representative Zhang Xiangchen made a keynote speech in the forum.

Zhang Xiangchen said the Infrastructure cooperation is an important part of China’s international economic cooperation. In 2014, the newly-signed contract value of China’s contracted projects overseas amounted to US$191.8 billion with a turnover of US$142.4 billion, covering 190 countries and regions around the world. China enjoys comparative advantages in railway, power, communications, construction materials and engineering machinery and could take flexible ways of investment, project construction and technical cooperation to conduct extensive win-win cooperation with countries around the world.

Zhang Xiangchen said, recently, the Chinese government formulated and released Vision and Actions on Jointly Building Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road, calling on the relevant countries and regions to jointly build the “Belt and Road”. To accelerate the “Belt and Road” construction is China’s new move to enhance economic development, and is conducive to promoting regional infrastructure development and raising regional economic integration to a new step. The infrastructure is the prior area of “belt and road” construction and most countries along the “Belt and Road” are in great needs of infrastructure construction, a large batch of railway, highway, energy, port, information and industrial parks projects are raised to the agenda and regional infrastructure cooperation face great opportunity. At present, over 60 countries along the “Belt and Road” and international organizations hold positive views on joining “Belt and Road” construction, the silk road fund has been launched smoothly and a batch of infrastructure connectivity projects are promoted steadily.

Zhang Xiangchen proposed three points on strengthening infrastructure cooperation and realizing complementary advantage and win-win cooperation with the relevant countries. Firstly, welcoming relevant countries to “Belt and Road” construction; secondly, innovating financing and business modes and promoting the common development of infrastructure; thirdly, strengthening multilateral cooperation and creating good cooperation environment.

Attending the forum were over 1,000 people including the Deputy Director of Liaison Office of central government in Macao Special Administrative Region Yao Jian, Head of the Department of Finance of Macao Special Administrative Region Liang Weite, Bahamas Vice Premier and Vice President of Costa Rica, and 42 vice ministerial officials from 31 countries and regions, as well as representatives from 30 international financial institutions, project contractors, equipment manufacturers and industrial service institutions.
