Chinese Press Conference of The 26th China-Us Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade Held in Guangzhou

On the afternoon of November 23, the 26th China-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade concluded successfully in Guangzhou. After the meeting, the Alternative Trade Representative of the Ministry of Commerce Zhang Xiangchen, together with the Vice Minister of Agriculture Qu Dongyu and the Deputy Director of the State Food and Drug Administration Wu Zhen jointly held Chinese and foreign media press conference and answered the questions proposed by journalists.

Zhang said that this Joint Commission is a specific action to implement the trade and economic achievements made by the President Xi Jinping during his visit to the United States. The activity not only brings the China-US trade and economic relationship to a successful conclusion, but also makes a good start for the bilateral trade and economic cooperation next year. During the Joint Commission, both sides jointly held a series of activities such as the exchange and luncheon meeting, the entrepreneur roundtable and the cooperative activity of health care themed on the Chinese provinces-US states trade and economic cooperation, providing a platform for the people of business circles and officers of the governments of the two countries to communicate with each other.

Zhang said that both China and the United States made positive comments on the successful holding of the Joint Commission and the achieved results. This Joint Commission is a spectacular high-level trade and economic dialogue which practically benefits people with rich fruits. The activity embodies the nature of the bilateral trade and economic relationship between China and the United States with mutual benefit and win-win result and enriches the trade and economic connation of the new pattern of relationship between the two great powers. It is hoped that both sides can continue to take the advantage of the platform of the Joint Commission to create a new situation of the bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

When answering the questions proposed by journalists, Zhang said that since the establishment of the diplomatic ties between China and the United States, the relationship between the two countries has gone through ups and downs, but always moved ahead. The trade and economic cooperation plays a significant role in this process. Over the past 30 years, the China-US trade and economic cooperation has realized a historic leap. Compared with the beginning stage of the diplomatic ties, the bilateral trade volume has expanded almost 230 times. In 2014, the bilateral trade volume broke the record, reaching US$ 555.1 billion. During the past 10 years, the bilateral trade volume increased 1.6 times and the service trade volume increased 2.9 times. China has become the fastest major market of the export growth of the United States. The China-US two-way investment develops from nothing and expands from a small to a large force. In 2014, the two-way investment stock exceeded US$140 billion. President Xi’s successful historical visit to the United States in September promoted the construction of the new pattern of relationship between the two great powers to a new stage and indicated the direction for the development of the trade and economic relationship. China is willing to strengthen the cooperation with the United States, control the differences and promote the sustainable, stable and sound development of the bilateral trade and economic relationship.
