More and More Buildings Are Seeking to Install Energy Efficient Ceiling Light Fittings

LED lighting systems are beginning to become more and more popular among both consumers in their homes and businesses as they try to save money on their energy bills.

As well as this, people can help significantly reduce their carbon footprint by using the illuminations as they are much more efficient than their soon to be obsolete energy-guzzling rival incandescent bulbs.

More and more buildings are seeking to install energy efficient ceiling light fittings in their offices.

Indeed, the need for this comes as lighting accounts for around 25 per cent of the commercial building sector's energy use, according to Omron Electronic Components Europe's Fabrizio Petris.

The expert, writing in Electronics Weekly, said improving control and automation can help to further reduce energy use.

Implementation automation in the home or office can help to reduce lighting consumption by as much as 50 per cent, according to market intelligence firm Pike Research.

The biggest advantage of such a system is that they present the ability to automatically switch lights off when they are not in use or are unnecessary. Mr Petris said this is behind a resurgence of interest in infrared sensors.

"Lighting controls offer significant potential for reducing that energy use and new sensor, switch and relay technologies are making a wide range of innovative strategies possible, from room-level awareness of occupancy and daylight sensing, to building-wide coordination of a fully networked system," he continued.

An increasing number of companies are looking towards the energy saving illuminations, with Sainsbury's the latest retailer to confirm it has installed the lights in its new store in Leek, Staffordshire.

The store was opened earlier this month, three years after original plans were submitted.

Indeed, the retailer said a new lighting system will cut energy use in the store by 59 per cent when compared with traditional incandescent lighting.
