Bocci's 57 Light Collection Explores an Unexpected Way to Produce Blown Glass Lighting.

Bocci’s 57 light collection explores an unexpected way to produce blown glass lighting. By mimicking manufacturing procedures that resemble closed cell foam, the 57 collection offers its admirers unique pieces of art work, not one is like another. With a procedure that Bocci says “involves trapping voids of air of different sizes and configurations within a glass matrix, yielding a shape loosely referencing a rain cloud. These pockets of air remain invisible when the piece is off, but come alive to reveal an interior universe when the piece is illuminated.”

Don’t let the Bocci’s 57 pendant collection fool you, there is more than just beauty here. The versatile and flexible design components of 57 allows for easy composition. The pendants are designed to be hung in clusters or allow for a spacious cloud like appearance. Allowing for each pendant to be spaced apart, reflecting similar components to a cloudy sky. Just like the dim sky’s of Vancouver, where the idea of the 57’s design was conceived.

Although the pendant’s orientation is relatively versatile, when all is said and done most of the chandeliers are vertical in composition. The vertical orientation of the 57 chandelier allows for the best interior situations to be rooms with high ceilings. Bocci recommends that, “In contrast, 57 is conceived as a layer or strata of light, or in other words: a horizontal chandelier.”
