Seoul Semiconductor Co.,Ltd Is a Korean Company Manufacturing LED Devices

Seoul Semiconductor Co., Ltd is a Korean company manufacturing LED devices. The company is listed on KOSDAQ. The company is producing LED packages in two plants in Ansan, Korea. The total production capacity is 4 billion LED packages per month.

In November 2006 Seoul Semiconductor announced it would be the first company to start selling in quantities LED light sources that can be plugged directly into 110 V or 230 V AC source. Previously using LED light sources has required the help of various converters. Lately a product development was released which provides a 90% increase in power efficiency and a THD lower than 25% to comply with the requirements of different countries, including DOE and others. Through IC technology, lighting manufacturers can directly plug Acrich2-based products into the wall without consideration of electrical conditions. The Acrich2 boards provide a replacement LED solution to replace 40-watt, 60-watt and 100-watt incandescent bulbs as well as MR16 halogen lamps and down lights.

Competitors of Seoul Semiconductor include among others Nichia, Cree, Lumileds, Everlight and Epistar.

The latest product of Seoul Semiconductor is LED ZC which is designed as a COB type and removes the need for the LED to be surface-mounted on to a metal plate, allowing manufacturers to bypass the chip connection process before use. Other popular COB type LED manufactureres are among others BridgeLux and Sharp Corporation.
