Basically a Shower Enclosure Is a Door with or Without Some Sides

Basically a shower enclosure is a door with or without some sides that sits on a shower tray or if you’re in a wet room that sits directly onto the floor. We are not dealing with shower trays here so whether its on a tray or direct to floor will not concern us, everything here applies to both cases. The doors that make up all or part of the enclosure come in about 5 different types with some variations. In addition to this you’ve got two or three basic shapes of the floor plan of the shower. There’s one other type of shower enclosure that doesn’t have a door and that’s a walk-in enclosure. What makes a walk in enclosure what it is is the fact that instead of a door it has an opening of some kind with no door in it. Shower enclosures come in many different styles – silver framed, white framed, glass options, frameless, semi-frameless – we are not dealing with these issues of style here, but there are a number of questions that you’ll always want to begin with when you are choosing your shower enclosure that relate to its place and function in your bathroom. Each of the different shapes, sizes and type of enclosure are designed to provide different solutions suited to the different circumstances you’ll find in peoples bathrooms so amongst these options you should find something to suit your needs. Then you need to look for that size, shape and type of shower enclosure that you want in the different styles provided by a range of manufacturers to find the one that suits your taste and your budget. Shower Enclosure Size Knowing how big your shower enclosure can be is a question of measuring your space but you must remember that unless you have a sliding or inward opening door then you will need some space outside the body of the enclosure to open the door into and the amount will depend on the size and type of the door. Shower Enclosure Shape There are four basic shapes of shower enclosure and then a few others. The basic shapes are rectangular and square which are pretty self-explanatory. The third basic shape is the quadrant, this is a shape designed to fit into a corner with two straight sides and an arc from the radius of a circle joining the two together, i. E. A curve at the front joining the two straight sides along the wall. Quadrants are called offset if one of the straight sides is longer than the other. The fourth basic shape is the pentagon, these are similar to the quadrant but instead of a curved front they have two small panels at an angle and a larger third panel in the middle where the door is. Any basic shape may appear in a bow-fronted form, in these cases one edge of the enclosure, in the case of the quadrant the curved edge, bows out giving more space in the showering area, obviously bow fronted enclosures need to have appropriately curved shower doors.
