Changing Lightbulbs Is Often Regarded

Any homeowner will know that it takes time, effort and - usually - money to keep houses looking the best they possibly can. Sometimes, jobs around the house can be fairly enjoyable, but at other times they can be a complete pain - and changing lightbulbs is often regarded as such and is therefore a task we all groan at.

If changing lightbulbs is a pain anyway, then replacing outdoor lighting which has gone bust can be a real scrape. Especially when the weather isn't pleasant, the last thing people want to do is go outside, get out stepladders, clip back creepers and vines to reach lights and unscrew waterproof covers, for some fittings. It can really be a total bore.

For this reason, according to AZCentral.com: "The main reason LEDs are stealing the limelight in landscapes is that homeowners hate changing those outside incandescent / halogen bulbs all the time, and they’re willing to pay for lighting that lasts longer."

LEDs typically boast a longevity of around 50,000 hours, making them vastly superior to other more traditional bulbs. Incandescent ones last about 1,000 hours before they need replacing, while compact fluorescent alternatives - often known as CFLs - last around 10,000 hours.

For those who deem it as much of a chore to work out how many years LEDs will last as they do changing lights outside regularly, 50,000 hours equates to a lifespan of just under six years, meaning that homeowners will very rarely need to replace their lights outside should they opt for LED lights.

Anybody worried about the upfront, slightly more expensive costs of these lights should bear in mind that they consume around 50 per cent of the power that outdated bulbs do and so will provide a relatively fast turnaround on investment.

They are also better to use outdoors as they are far more resilient to the elements. They don't have a loose filament, they are not full of compressed gases and furthermore don't contain mercury or lead, making it much less problematic when it comes to their disposal.
