The Spinnaker Chair Has a Lot to Do with Sails

The Spinnaker Chair

The Spinnaker chair has a lot to do with sails. First of all, the word "Spinnaker" itself is defined as a large triangular sail set on a spar that swings out opposite the mainsail. And that is the source from which the shape of the Spinnaker chair draws its inspiration.

The shape of the chair is inspired by the shape of spinnaker sail in the wind. That shape is not used here for aesthetics alone, as it also translates into a comfortable chair.

There is another, possibly more tangible link to sails, beyond the obvious name and the inspiration. The back of the chair is made from recycled sails.

The chair is delivered already assembled, ready to be used in different settings, whether in the office or for lounging. You can have it personalized with an image, and order different covers if you feel like playing with the look from time to time.

A powder coated steel frame is available in black, gray or white. The canvas back is available in a variety of sail material. Cushions can be ordered in many different fabrics and also leather.

The Spinnaker chair, which is now available in the U.S. dealers as well as online, was designed and launched for the Norwegian market in 2005. It was introduced to the rest of the world at IMM Cologne in 2007.

Designed by Linda Steen and Lena Axelsson, the chair is manufactured by Hødnebø, a company that was was established by furniture maker Stian K. Hødnebø in 1904 in the southern Norwegian town of Risør.

Spinnaker is a green company and member of the Sustainable Furnishings Council.
